Two accounts, one post, both audiences. It is the only feature on the platform that doubles reach without spending anything.

What a Collab Post Actually Does
A collaboration post appears on both profiles and is shown to both audiences, with engagement counted once for the shared post. It is not a mention or a tag โ it is genuinely one post with two authors.
That means the recommendation system sees the combined signal. Two hundred interactions from two small audiences is a stronger start than two hundred from one, and the post gets a real chance at being pushed further.
It also produces a permanent artefact: the post lives on both profiles, so a visitor arrives at a page where somebody else already trusted you enough to appear on it.
Who to Ask
Similar-sized accounts in a related but not identical niche. Identical niches compete for the same people; adjacent ones complement.
- Similar follower count โ within roughly double either way
- Related subject โ same audience, different angle
- Active recently โ a post from this week, not three months ago
- Responsive โ they reply to comments on their own posts, which predicts they will reply on yours
Start with people who already engage with you. Familiarity is the difference between a yes and silence.
The Message That Gets a Yes
Three sentences: who you are, the specific idea, and what they would have to do. Vague invitations read like work; specific ones read like an opportunity.
A workable script: "I make videos about budget cooking for students. I would like to do a collab post on five meals under two pounds โ you film two, I film three, both of us publish as a collab. Happy to send the clips first so you can decide."
No flattery, no long introduction, no "let me know if you are interested" without a proposal attached.

Structuring the Post
One post, one subject, two voices alternating. A carousel works well: slide two from you, slide three from them, and so on, with a single caption written in the first person plural.
For a Reel, the simplest structure is a split or a handover: you open, they continue, you close. Both faces appear in the first second, which matters because half the audience will not recognise the other person.
After It Lands
Reply to comments from your own account for the first hour, and let them handle theirs. Then, a week later, check what actually happened: profile visits, follows, and whether any of those followers came back for a second post.
Most collab posts produce a spike and a small retention tail. The tail is the part worth measuring โ a hundred new followers who never return are worth less than twenty who do.
What Not to Do
Do not collab with an account that buys engagement. Their audience is not real, and the post will look successful while producing nothing.
Do not collab four times in a week. Audiences notice when a feed turns into a guest list, and the account starts looking like a network rather than a voice.
Do not expect the other account's audience to follow you automatically. They followed them, not you. The post has to make you worth following on your own.
Why It Beats Buying Reach
A collaboration borrows an audience that chose the topic. A purchase adds accounts that chose nothing, and it costs money to make the ratio worse.
One good collab a month is roughly the same effort as reading three comparison articles, and it produces something no service can sell: people who arrived because they liked the work.
